Paranormalcy (Paranormalcy #1) by Kiersten White

Paranormalcy (Paranormalcy, #1)
Evie's always thought of herself as a normal teenager, even though she works for the International Paranormal Containment Agency, her ex-boyfriend is a faerie, she's falling for a shape-shifter, and she's the only person who can see through paranormals' glamours.

But Evie's about to realize that she may very well be at the center of a dark faerie prophecy promising destruction to all paranormal creatures.

So much for normal.

Paranormalcy was actually quite good. It's a story about a girl who grew up serving "the system" only to find out she is really being governed by it. White portrays the main character, Evie, as a tough chic in hot pink stiletto boots. This I loved, because I truly believe you can be tough and girlie at the same time. She also has quite a bit of sass and a good sense of humor which is shared since the book is written in first person. The story was fast paced; it never got boring. Werewolves, vampires, and fairies, oh my! Throw in a hag, a few trolls, and a mermaid and you have a recipe for fun filled entertainment. The language was definitely young adult which made it a very speedy read, but it never took away from the story. I would recommend this to anyone interested in a fun paranormal read.
